Click on “Add Tax Organizer” #
- In the Tax Organizers section, look for a button labeled Add Tax Organizer
- Click this to start creating a new organizer for a client.
Choose the “One by one” option #
- You’ll be prompted to choose how you want to create organizers (e.g., bulk upload vs. individual).
- Select One by one if you’re setting up a tax organizer for a single client at a time.
Select the desired tax year #
- From the dropdown or year selector, choose the tax year you are preparing the organizer for (e.g., 2024).
- Make sure you select the correct year to avoid confusion later for both you and the client.
Select the desired tax return type #
- Choose the return type that applies to this client (e.g., Individual, Corporate, Partnership, etc.).
- This determines which questions and sections will appear in the organizer.
Add the client (if not already in Debits) #
- If the client already exists in Debits, you can simply search and select them from the client list.
- If the client does not currently exist in Debits, click on Add Client Manually.
- This will open a form for you to enter the new client’s basic details.
Enter client details and save #
- In the “Add Client Manually” form, at minimum, enter:
- Client Name
- Client Email Address (this is where the invite will be sent)
- Double-check that the email is correct to ensure the client receives the organizer.
- Click Add (or Save) to create the client record and link it to this tax organizer.
Assign the accountant(s) #
- You’ll see a field or dropdown to select Accountants assigned to this client.
- Choose one or more team members who will be responsible for reviewing or managing this tax organizer.
- This helps route client responses to the correct staff and organize internal workflow.
Send the invitation to the client #
- After confirming all details (client, year, return type, and assigned accountants), click Send Invites.
- This will send an email invitation to the client with a link to access and complete the Tax Organizer online.
- The status of the organizer should now update (e.g., to “Invited” or “Pending Client”).
These steps guide you from creating a new organizer all the way to inviting the client, ensuring the correct year, return type, client information, and internal assignments are in place.
